A 19th Century Rosewood Sewing or Work Box. With a flat pedimented top, with edge moulding, over the concave sides, flowing into the chamfered body, the under chamfers finished with a bead moulding. The lid opening to a recessed centre, with a silk cushion framed mirror and a lower section filled with compartments. The body opening with a pair of doors, to reveal three graduated drawers, the middle drawer with divisions and the lower drawer with a lift out writing slope, with two ink bottles, and a pen tray. The body finished with an edge moulding as per the pediment, and the whole raised up on compressed bun feet. the sides with ring turned and bulls eye carrying handles. The whole with good mother of pearl inlays of flowers and scrolling leaves. The drawers with line and ball inlays surrounding the flower head decorated knob handles. Complete with lock and key. Date circa 1850. Height 14 inches, 36cm. Width 12 1/2 inches, 32cm. Depth 9 1/2 inches, 24cm.
