A 19th Century Morroco Leather and Gilt Tooled Dressing or Jewellery Box, the domed hinged top with a brass carrying handle and the interior of the lid with a hinged compartment.  The main body with a lift out jewellery tray, and lower compartment.  The whole body with exquisite gilt decoration, and the rim stamped for 'GRUEL AND ENGELMANN, PARIS'. The Paris firm of Gruel and Engelmann was known for its deluxe bookbindings, and as such this was probably made for the firm's display at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1878.

Excellent quality throughout and complete with key.
