A Large 19th Century Lignum Vitae String Box. The string barrel with a tulip finial, enclosing a steel cutting blade. above the domed, stepped and concave banded lid, finished with a rounded rim and pierced with the string hole. The cylindrical body with a ringed and concave banded foot. The barrel of very well grained and variegated wood. Date circa 1850. Height 9 1/2 inches, 24cm. Diameter 6 1/4 inches, 16cm.Ref: 23066
