An Early 18th Century Delft Apothecary Jar. The jar with the original brass cover, the cover with a vase spire finial domed body, fitting over the raised rim of the apothecary jar. The body with rounded shoulders, and a slightly recessed centre section, broadening to the rounded lower section, before the outswept foot rim. The jar with a scrolled reserve, topped by peacocks flanking a basket of fruit. The lower edge swagged with fruits between a cherub mask. The reserve titled 'MARTIAT. The underside with makers mark 'P' for Jan Pennis Merken. Date circa 1720. Height 14 inches, 36cm. Width 7 inches, 18cm. Depth 7 inches, 18cm.
