A Pair of Small 18th Century Imari Vases and Covers. Each cover with an onion spire finial, above the bell shaped body with a rim edge. The vases of rounded shape, tapering downward and inward to a recessed foot rim. The finials in somewhat worn gilt, the covers with leaves and flowers, the rim edge decorated with a waved line and dotted band. The shoulders of the vases pained with reserves of flower heads, between panels of pairs of flowers. The bodies with circular panels filled with fierce dragons, the panels surrounded by a profusion of flowers and leaves. The lower edge of the body with a band of entwined scroll decoration. The whole in vivid blues, reds and ochre, with gilt. Date c 1800 Height 7 inches, width 4 inches, depth 4 inches.
