A Pair of Early 19th Century Watercolours. Each depicting bucolic rural scenes. In one, a herder plays a flute, as he sits on a log, beside a lake, as his cattle water, in a rural landscape, with a foot bridge over the lake, and an classical temple glimpsed within the trees. In the other, he plays a flute to a young girl, as the cattle water, in a pool beside a larger lake, over which an arch bridge crosses to a village. The pair within reeded ebonized frames, with leaf head paterae, and sand grain gilt slips. Date circa 1810. Height 12 inches, 31cm. Width 14 inches, 36cm. Depth 1 inch, 2.5cm.
