An Early 19th Century Carved Oak Figure of Saint Augustine of Canterbury. The Saint depicted wearing a shallow mitre, as he looks forward in tasselled long robes, holding in his right hand a church, signifying his establishment of the English church, in his left hand he holds a crozier, decorated with folding oak leaves. He stands on a conforming naturalistic plinth base. Date circa 1820. Height 29 inches, 74cm. Width 9 1/2 inches, 24cm. Depth 7 inches, 18cm.
