A 19th Century Papier Mache Bowl or Basket by Clay.

The rectangular basket, with canted sides, raised to the ends, and with rounded corners, finished with a small mould to the rim.  The outside decorated in gilt, with rising foliage and grasses.  The interior decorated with intense flowers and foliage in gilt and ochre.  The underside impressed for 'CLAY, KING STREET, COVENT GARDEN'.  Clay were papier mache makers to George III.
