An 18th Century Mahogany Bombe Tea Caddy. The lid with a centre tablet, mounted with the original gilt brass leaf and shell handle. The tablet surrounded by rope twist boxwood and walnut stringing, before the concave profile mould and thence a further band of rounded boxwood and walnut rope twist stringing. The body of bombe shape, mounted with a gilt brass leaf and shell escutcheon plate. The body finished with a rounded boxwood and walnut stringing, as per the lid, and standing on four ogee bracket feet. The interior with a pair of lift out caddies, each boxwood strung, the hinged lids with oval and dotted inlays surrounding the ringed knob handles. The undersides of the lids in burr walnut, with fan inlays. Date circa 1750. Height 6 3/4 inches, 17cm. Width 10 inches, 25cm. Depth 6 inches, 15cm.Ref: 23980
