An Early 19th Century Tobacco Box. The Regency cast iron tobacco box, the cover with a circular finial handle, over the broadening panels, falling to meet the octagonal rim. The cover fitting over the octagonal casket shaped box, with cut corners, forming an octagonal shaping. The corners finished with lapets, over a rounded moulding, and thence to bow silhouette freize, finished with bracket feet. The whole thence raised up on a plinth, with a rounded stepped edge moulding, over the likewise bow silhouette frieze, meeting the bracket feet. The whole decorated in gilt with scrolling leaves and flowers, with the facing edges of the box painted with roses and foliage. Date circa 1830. Height 7 1/4 inches, 18.5cm. Width 5 inches, 13cm.
