A Red and Gilt Lacquer Decorated Barometer. The barometer with a spire pediment, with two flanking brass finials, which rotate as the cursor knobs to the silver and engraved dial, showing barometric pressure via the exposed tube, and panels for weather indication. The circular body tapering outward to a brass collar, and thence the spiralling fluted lower section, finished with a brass collar, above the two section cylindrical cistern, finished with a tapering bottom finial. The whole in red and gilt lacquer, with Chinese figures in a landscaped oriental garden with tea houses. In very good condition and reading correctly with a full tube. Date circa 1900. Height 38 1/2 inches, 98cm. Width 3 inches, 8cm. Depth 3 inches, 8cm.
