An 18th Century Delft Apothecary Jar with Spout. The outward rounded rim, above a round body, tapering to a waisted stem, thence spreading to the circular foot, flat but hollow to the underside. The body with a ring spout to the front, and a broad rounded handle to the rear. The body painted with scrolled border topped by a pair of peacocks flanking a basket of fruits. The lower edge of the border with pendants and draped bunches of fruit, flanking a winged cherub. The border surrounding a title 'S DE ALTHAEA F' for Sirop of Althaea Fern. Date c 1730 Height 8 1/2 inches width 9 inches, depth 6 inches.
