An 18th Century Delft Tobacco Jar. The tobacco jar with an outward curved rim, above the ovoid body, the broad shoulders tapering to a foot rim. The jar painted with a scene of an American Indian, with feathered head dress. He sits on the edge of a pedestal, smoking a pipe. Behind him is a large tobacco jar, numbered '2', and a basket of tobacco leaves. In the background a tall tree grows, with two ships in full sail in the distance. A packing case is titled VOC for the Dutch East Indian Company. The underside marked 'BP' for the maker Blompot of Molslaan, Delft. Complete with original brass cover. Height 12 inches, 31cm. Width 8 1/2 inches, 22cm. Depth 8 1/2 inches, 22cm. Date c 1770.
