A 19th Century Spode Centre Bowl. The bowl mounted with a pair of exotic animal masks forming the handles, beside the rounded and convex rim, before the rounded bowl, sweeping into a concave stem, and thence spreading to a stepped foot. The outer body decorated with scenes of turbaned men in an overgrowing garden amongst which stands and enormous fish jar. The foot decorated with a man leading a horse through a landscape where 'wild' cows prance. The interior rim of the bowl with scenes of Asia, as people wander past horses, elephants carry passengers and goods, and 'wild' cows and rhinoceros charge. The centre of the bowl showing a Doric columned ruin, in front of which people cross a bridge, as wood men chop logs, men row across the river. The pattern beigh the Spode 'Citadel, New Corinth'. Date circa 1830. height 4 3/4 inches, 12cm. Width 8 1/2 inches, 21.5cm. Depth 7 3/4 inches, 19.5cm.Ref:
