An Early 19th Century Blunderbuss. The blunderbuss with a flared steel barre, topped y a hinged and sprung bayonet. The barrel proof marked twice, fronting the mechanism, with flowing foliage engraved decoration, the plate bearing the makers name, ' WELCH' and 'BANBURY' to the barrel for Welch of Banbury. The trigger within a scrolled and dished trigger guard finished with leaf and pineapple finials. The full walnut stock with a finely hatched grip, the underside with pipes holding the ram rod. The butt finished with a butt plate, held with engraved screws. Both the metal work and walnut with a very good patination. The mechanism and sprung bayonet working correctly and well. Height 29 inches, 74cm. Width 7 inches, 18cm. Depth 2 1/2 inches, 6cm. Date circa 1830
