A Pair of Regency Tole Chestnut Vases. Each vase a navette shaped cover, the covers rising in spires to an orb finial. The classical vase shaped bodies mounted with pairs of lion mask ring handles. The bodies tapering to tall concave stems, spreading to the oval stepped and concave profile bases. The vases decorated in gilt against a black ground, with bucolic rural scenes of farms and homesteads set amongst mature trees. The scenes banded by oak leaf and acorn panels. The rims and edges of the vases highlighted with gilt banding. Height 13 inches, 33cm. Width 7 1/2 inches, 19cm. Depth 4 1/2 inches, 11cm. Date circa 1820.Ref:
